Blondie
Greatest Hits
Capitol
By David Chiu

Whether Blondie gets into the Rock and Roll Hal of Fame or not, being that this marks their eligibility year, their legacy has already been assured as is the case of this latest but comprehensive hits package (expanding from the 1981 best of). Fronted by Deborah Harry, New Wave's answer to Marilyn Monroe, Blondie has made some of the most remarkable punk and pop music coming out of downtown New York with a lot of energy and blunt cool. The usual suspects are here: "Heart of Glass," "The Tide Is High," "Call Me,'' and Rapture, but Greatest Hits also include some early gems like "Denis" and "X Offender," an underrated tune from the universally panned The Hunter in "Island of Lost Souls," the the recent comeback Maria. An overview of a unique career like this couldn't be better summed up as this.
