Reading the liner notes on Brandy Norwood's first compilation, I was amazed at the number of Top Ten hits both R&B and pop she has had for the last ten years-one can make the argument she ruled the '90s charts-wise. Hearing the songs again conjures up a different R&B/hip-hop landscape back then, which was dominated by the lush smooth sounds of Babyface and Boyz II Men before 50 Cent and Kanye West became the bombs. Best of is packed with hit after hit: "The Boy Is Mine" (with Monica), "Sittin'Up in My Room," "I Wanna Be Down," "Angel in Disguise," the #1 smash "Have You Ever," and the most recent "Talk About Our Love" (with the aforementioned West), as well as a few odds such as remakes of "Another Day in Paradise" and "Rock With You." The key to Brandy's success and longevity up to this point is her soulful honeyed delivery, which can't be said for her peers then and now.
