Culbertson couldn't have been more blessed in life when it comes to talent, not to mention movie-star quality looks. But do those things necessarily add up to good music? It's On Tonight, for the most part, does answer the question. The multi-instrumentalist (piano, horns, programming) delivers romantic-sounding smooth jazz that aims to please, if not challenges-then again with song titles such as "Let's Get Started," Hookin'Up,"and "Touch Me," one doesn't expect to hear a treatise on power relations. The presence of veteran vocalists such as Patti Austin, Kirk Whalum, and Will Downing enlivens things up giving the music soul rather than just being wallpaper.
