This French collective bridged the genres
of electronic music and world music and turned it into something
that some might be deemed as sonic wallpaper. It is not meant
to be derogatory. Listening to the collected works of Deep Forest
here on this decade-spanning set is like listening to one big
atmospheric symphony of different rhythms and textures. The act
draws upon African, Middle Eastern, Latin and Eastern European
influences and turns them into cerebral yet danceable fare. It
has crossover appeal to clubbers in addition to world and New
Age fans. Old school guitar rockers will find nothing redeeming
here; others will find Deep Forest appealing to their aural senses.
