From the New York Times...

Gladys Knight and the Pips were one of the definitive soul acts of the '70s. It's hard to separate them from their recognizable hit ever "Midnight Train to Georgia" (with "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" running a very close second)--you can't walk into a pharmacy, a department store, or being on hold on the phone without hearing that song once. It's a tribute to Knight's soul-stirring voice along with the vocal support of her Pips. The group's heydey on Buddah Records coupled with their later tenure with Columbia have now been compiled with a romantic themes, and spotlight other songs that many people know beyond "Georgia": the Bill Withers' song "Tenderness Is His Way," and Ashford and Simpson's "Still Such a Thing." Love Songs is a tribute to these R&B pioneers of grace and soul.
