The first Motown album revived former Doobie Michael McDonald's career, so why mess with success? Motown Two is another collection of soul chestnuts sung in McDonald's distinctive husky voice. The selections here may seem apparently obvious such as "What's Goin On," "Reach Out," "I'll Be There," "Second that Emotion," "I Was Made to Love Her," etc. and the arrangements and production may be at times smooth and glossy (thin), but it's McDonald who keeps it all the more real and soulful through his singing. Those who loved the first Motown won't be disappointed.
