Bryan Adams
The Best of Me
A&M/Universal
By David Chiu

Though the inclusion of songs that appeared in his previous best of is somewhat baffling; Best of Me is Adams' hits that dominated his '90s output. Though Adams at this point abandoned the rockier side of himself and became a pop star, much to the chagrin of Reckless-era fans, some of the songs here are arguably okay and still shows that the Canadian can still write some mindlessly catching songs, albeit pop: standouts include the title track, "Let's Make a Night to Remember," his duet with Spice Girl Mel C. on "When You're Gone," "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me is You," and his collaboration with Rod Stewart and Sting (or the supergroup ASS) on "All for Love." Only earlier hits like "Run to You," "Summer of '69," and "Can't Stop This thing We Started" enlivens the rest of the songs here on The Best of Me; it would have been nice to include that new song he did for the animated movie Spirit called "Here I Am," his best song in recent memory; Still, Best of Me is a nice companion sequel to So Far So Good, but though a copy of Cuts Like a Knife or Reckless truly reflects the talents of the man.
