The Breeders
Title TK
Elektra
By David Chiu

You knew that somewhere down the road that the duo of sisters Kim and Kelley Deal would get back together again and record as the Breeders. What happened to the two lived up to the title of their last album from 1993's Last Splash. Though it remains to be if their newest album in nearly ten years will make a "splash" title TK is certainly a pleasant return. The lo-fi quality of the album is due of course to producer Steve Albini-he records the band's affinity for fuzzy guitars and cut and paste, stream of consciousness thoughts like on Little fury, the she, the subdued "Off You," and "Sinister Foxx." The album's best moments are "Son of Three," the short instrumental "T and T," and the punkish pop of "Huffer." There is a heavy atmosphere both in the lyrics and the vocals of both Kim and Kelley-it adds to the album's rawer yet intimate immediacy.
