Death by Chocolate
Zap the World
Jetset
By David Chiu

You listen to this album and you could swear it was 1967 than 2002. The sound on the second album by this English collective recall the mod, swinging days of '60s London with its quirky and cheeky pop and funk. At times, this record sounds like a soundtrack to a long-forgotten B movie that you can also franchise to Austin Powers's sequels. Vocalist Angie Tillett projects innocence, whimsy, and charm through her reticent voice on "I'm Still Young"; "Bibi Gin" sounds like the Zombies's "She's Not There." and this album features a cheeky "rap" of "AB and C". The music balances between songs and instrumentals with interludes sprinkled in which does not impede the flow. Sure the sound is retro, but it doesn't mean that it's dated; its minimalist approach with clever arrangements should appeal to today's indie heads.
