Me Without
You
Epic/Sony Music Soundtrax/Legacy

Buying a movie soundtrack is like going
to a flea market; out of all the crap encountered, you might
find one or two things that might prove a treasure. This soundtrack
to this coming of age film set in the late '70s and early '80s
punk/New Wave scene exceeds most expectations and can arguably
rank up there with the best soundtracks like Saturday Night
Fever and Grease. For fans who believed rock and roll
really happened between 1977 and 1982 will be happy to know who's
on this soundtrack: the Clash's "White Man in Hammersmith
Palais," Adam and the Ants' "Kings of the Wild Frontier,
the Other Ones' "Another Girl, Another Planet," Echo
and the Bunnymen's "The Cutter," the Strangler's "Skin
Deep." Even the synth pop of Depeche Mode's "Just Can't
Get Enough," the Normal's "Warm Leatherette",
and Scritti Politti's "The Sweetest Girl" enhances
this alternative rock collection. Other tracks by Sonny and Cher,
Tim Buckley, and Nick Drake add a little something out of the
ordinary. The one baffling selection here is "I've Nevr
Been to Me" by Charlene, which has got to be one of the
most horrible syrupy pop songs ever--I mean, ever--written.
Other than that, Me Without You speaks of a time when
it was great to be young and punk.
