Sheila Nicholls

Some of the songs on Sheila Nicholls' second album were produced by Glen Ballard, which certainly accounts for the perfect pop sheen. Otherwise, the British-born singer/songwriter conveys a sort of raw intimacy in her personal songs that are both poppish ("How Strong," Ruby," "Faith") and reflective ("Love Song," "Moth and the Streetlight"). Nicholls' voice, sounding a bit like Sarah McLachlan and Aimee Mann, sings in a casual yet soulful way that gives credence to her introspective songs. Most people who listen to this record will readily identify with the album's themes of faith and overcoming those obstacles life throws us at.
