Sahara Hotnights

Sahara Hotnights
Mercury Lounge
April 8, 2003
by Taryn A. Harris/senior editor

Sahara Hotnights, the Swedish punk rock band in the vein of the Runaways and the Ramones are amazingly refreshing considering most new music these days is dismissable crap.

The band consists of Josephine Forsman (drummer), Johanna Asplund (bass guitar), Jennie Asplund (guitar) and Maria Andersson (guitar and vocals) and there's not a weak link in the bunch. Their dynamic chemistry only tells part of the story on record; live, it is a different animal but an exciting one.

The massively talented quartet, who has appeared on Song Ramones The Same, the Ramones tribute album and on the soundtrack to Jackass: The Music Vol. 1,  treated the Mercury audience to songs from their latest album, Jennie Bomb (on Jet Set Records), which included "Alright Alright (Here's My Fist Where's The Fight?)," "No Big Deal," "Keep Up The Speed," "Out of The System" and the catchy "On Top of Your World."

What esle can I say?  These girls are kickass and had the crowd at the sold out show at the Mercury Lounge rocking for a solid 40 minutes.Looking forward to hearing more of them in the future.  Grrrrrrrr!
