Elegance comes to mind at the mere mention of Sarah Vaughan's jazz singing. Certainly not in the scat tradition of Ella Fitzgerald or the deep blues of Billie Holiday, Vaughan brought a certain grace and a range that makes one swoon. The sheer proof is contained in her treatment of the standards such as "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Misty," "The Days of Wine and Roses," "Love," and "A Foggy Day." There hasn't been a Sarah Vaughan-type singer before or after; she set the bar that high.
