Titiyo
Come Along
Lava/Atlantic

Given that most American listeners have
probably never heard of her, Titiyo is well known on the Swedish
music charts (she had already recorded three albums). So this
latest one can be somewhat considered her debut proper. And fortunately
it's an anomaly of the pop music being churned out by young female
"stars" these days, as the music and lyrics pays off
satisfyingly. The sister of Nenah Cherry and Eagle Eye Cherry,
Titiyo possess a cool voice of a jazz singer without having to
resort to reach the high notes to make a point across; the textured
pop music contains some melodic, hip-hop influenced soul in "Come
Along" and 1989; "Show" and "Given Thing"
shows a little rock edge and adds variety; Right and Wrong speaks
about relationships without the cliched, pretentious tripe, and
the soul balladry of "Love Has Left Your Eyes" and
"Last Time "convincingly conveys that sense of heartbreak
and disillusionment. This understated approach in the singer's
delivery added with the scintillating rhythms and melodies could
possibly be the things to break this Swedish-based artist here
in the States.
